Overview & Requirements: 
Job Purpose
 
Reporting to the Manager, Risk Analytics Projects, this position is responsible for the processing and analysis of PHA data files from a variety of industries utilizing knowledge of process engineering and by using custom software tools including Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing.
 
Duties and responsibilities
 
  • Import PHA study information from the original file (Excel or PHA-Pro) to custom-made software
  • Interpret cause-consequence scenarios in HAZOPs and enter additional information as required, such as safeguard and recommendation categories, as per standards
  • Run automated processing routines based on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing
  • Enhance and tune machine learning training sets and rule sets
  • Add automatic calculations in Excel or PHA-Pro to improve efficiency of process 
  • Reference P&ID drawings 
  • Document findings and make observations on source files
  • Assist with interpretation of Process Hazard Assessment analytics
  • Participate in driving automation of data processing towards agreed upon goals
 
Qualifications
 
  • Knowledge of Hazards and Operability (HAZOP) Studies
  • Process Safety exposure and understanding of Risk Assessments
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering with 0 to 3 years of experience or;
  • Chemical Engineering Technologist with 2+ years relevant work experience
  • Passion for innovation and providing new technology solutions to industry
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs
  • Strong typing skills (60 wpm)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word (VBA experience is an asset)
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Fast learner
  • Able to work independently or with minimal supervision
 
Working conditions
 
This role will function within a typical office environment. Workloads will very greatly, with frequent periods of intense activity and tight deadlines. 
 
Physical requirements
 
This job will require significant periods of sedentary work. The majority 
of time will be spent reviewing and managing documents, both paper and electronic.
